The Reel Awesome is a 51’ (oa) Riviera Passagemaker, designed & built in Australia by Riviera PTY Ltd for the serious Sport Fisherman as well as the first time angler. Designed with “luxury” in mind, the saloon, as with all ensuites and cabins, offers superb accommodation. The Reel Awesome is powered by twin 485hp Supercharged Detroit diesel engines, which provide a fast and comfortable ride. Newly fitted are underwater exhausts that provide an extremely quite, smoke and smell free experience. The Reel Awesome is equipped with the latest in electronics and top-of-the-line Shimano Tiagra & Penn fishing tackle. Reel Awesome is uniquely full walk-around making it ideally suited to salt water fly-fishing. With its huge approx 130 sq ft cockpit and massive 15’3” beam. We aboard Reel Awesome strongly believe that single motor wooden charter vessels of 42ft and less are not suited to fishing the Three Kings due to the dangers that these open waters can deliver. Reel Awesome is one of the few charter boats ideally suited to plying the waters of the Three Kings safely due to its size, heavy displacement, twin motors and solid fibreglass hull. Reel Awesome is a very serious Three Kings charter vessel.

Whangaroa Harbour, situated in the far north of New Zealand on the protected East Coast has without doubt one of the most productive Marlin Fishing grounds in New Zealand. In this picture, you can see the Whangaroa charter boats moored on the new marina situated at the top of the harbour. Whangaroa is world renown for having the largest Striped Marlin in the world & is considered by many to be the Striped Marlin capital of the world. When marlin fishing just 15 minutes from the entrance to the protected harbour, pack attacks are not uncommon. During the peak part of the game fishing season, a significant number of the Bay of Islands charter boats base themselves from Whangaroa Harbour. I consider this a reflection of the productiveness of the Whangaroa fishing area and the idealness of Whangaroa as a launching point to the Three Kings & Middlesex Bank fishing areas.

Reel Awesome operates from the beautiful Whangaroa Harbour during summer and is also available for charter pickups from the Bay of Islands. Reel Awesome runs bottom bouncing charters to North Cape and beyond over winter for Hapuka and big Snapper. Fishing grounds extend from Tutukaka to The Three Kings Islands. Reel Awesome is berthed at B9 in the marina situated directly in front of the famous Whangaroa DeepSea Anglers Club.

Conservation and information are extremely important to the sportfishing industry. The Reel Awesome fishing team supports tag and release, the final decision being with the angler.
